Why is it important to protect an idea?

Answer: Ideas for any new technology can be easily be stolen by anyone that a potential patentee talks to. The laws have changed dramatically for any inventor.  In the past, a person that could prove the idea for a new product was his and someone took it from him, the court protected him. Now the law is, if you have an idea for a new product and you share your idea or even a prototype with anyone in the public, they can simply take your idea, file for a patent and the patent belongs to them. The law is: The first person to file for a patent on any idea is the inventor and owns the patent.
